Rafelski, Marc

Marc Rafelski is currently a graduate student at the University of California, San Diego. Marc studies star formation in high redshift galaxies and damped Lyman alpha systems using both ground and space based optical imaging and spectroscopy. After receiving his Ph.D., Marc plans to obtain a post doctoral position. Marc's long term career plans include continuing his research in astrophysics, and teaching physics and astronomy at the college level. Through the CfAO and the ISEE program, he discovered the world of education research, and how to apply ideas of ownership, metacognition, student interaction and engagement, and goal based instruction in his teaching. Moreover, he acquired a passion for improving both students' and the public's critical thinking skills and a desire to pass on an appreciation for science. Marc hopes to use his training in education to design and implement survey courses to engage students in the scientific process.
